I'd pick and I'd eat more wild blackberries
Here's the lyrics to a couple of the new songs. There are a few gaps, but I'm pretty sure that most of them are correct! These will probably change by the time they appear on the new album, but at least you'll be able to sing along to the good quality Coachella recordings that I posted a few weeks ago. I reckon these two songs are a match for any of Bloc Party's previous material, both lyrically and musically, and I can't wait to hear the studio versions. 'Uniform' looks set to be Bloc's longest song to date - an epic three-part opus, whilst 'Waiting For The 7.18' is a warm, tender track which gradually morphs into a post-rock influenced soundscape. Beautiful!Waiting For The 7.18
Waiting for the seven eighteen
January is endless
Weary eyed and forlorn
The Northern line is still ours
...
I've got nothing to add or contest
Can still kick a ball a hundred yards
We cling to bottles and memories of the past
Just give me moments
Not hours or days
Just give me moments
Grinding your teeth in the middle of the night
The sadness of those molars
Spend all your spare time trying to escape
Daydreaming about the summertime
If I could do it again, I'd make more mistakes
I'd not be so scared of falling
If I could do it again, I'd climb more trees
I'd pick and I'd eat more wild blackberries
Just give me moments
Not hours or days
Just give me moments
Let's drive to Brighton on the weekend
Uniform
There was a sense of disappointment as we sped away
Every town now just felt the same
The tear on my cheek just dried up; it wasn't there
All the young people looked the same
'Cause we're so handsome and we're so bored
So entertain us, tell me a joke
Make it long, make it last
Make it cruel, just make me laugh
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt
Did you forget your blues on the weekend?
The internet will keep us together
MTV taught me how to sulk and love nothing
And how to grow my hair long
'Cause we're so handsome...
Why do you go picking fights that you'll lose?
So why do you go thinking thoughts that are above you?
'Cause I was brave, intelligent; I could have been a hero
No-one can be trusted under the age of fourteen
...my joy and pain is relative
I've gotten so good at lying to myself
Oh!
Well my pain and honour is used up
Oh! Oh! Oh!
My guns are rusted
So when're you gonna realise
Those are not your wrongs to right?
Have another life, have another...
I am a martyr, I just need a motive
I am a martyr, I just need a cause
I'm a believer, I just need a motive
I'm a believer, I just need a cause
We're finding it hard to be alone
We're finding it hard to break the mould
We're finding it hard to excite myself
We have nothing at all to say
Uniform
There was a sense of disappointment as we sped away
All the young people looked the same

The Tongster speaks!
A little update from Matt on the band's progress in the studio, first posted over on 'Marshals'...
"Sorry we're so tardy with this 'weblog' thing, we're somewhat busy, what with a second album to make and all. With regards to progress on that front, I'll keep it succinct - there's nothing worse than reading a band's running commentary on the recording process; 'Yeah, it's great - we're playing congas strapped upside down to the ceiling... best album yet... "experimental"... blah blah flipping blah,' and then it turns out more lame-arsed than a field recording of Fern Cotton slipping over a dog turd on her weekly shopping run to Morrisons on a wet Tuesday morning. Actually, that would be kind of funny. So let's just say the studio's great, we love Ireland, everyone is happy and the process thus far has been decidedly unrocky and free-flowing. Fun even. Who would have thought that?"No sign of difficult-second-album-syndrome so far then!In other news, Russell swam 20 lengths this morning, ate a massive breakfast, felt sick and then caused the accidental explosion of Gordy's head through the overuse of delay pedals.Labels: A_Weekend_In_The_City, Press

Bloc Party's Big Weekend
As previously mentioned on BLOG PARTY, Bloc will make the long trek up to Dundee, Scotland this weekend to play at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. They're playing the 'In New Music We Trust' stage on Saturday after Dirty Pretty Things and before the headliners, Primal Scream. If you're going...please don't go dressed like this man. It's not big and it's not clever! Enjoy your weekend though!
The rest of us can keep track of goings-on at the festival in a number of ways. Radio 1 will come live from the site over the weekend with live sets, interviews and acoustic performances.
From 19:00 on Saturday and Sunday night you'll be able to see all the action from both stages on digital TV. If you have digital satellite, digital cable or Freeview you'll be able to press red from any BBC TV channel and see the show. Also on Saturday and Sunday night, BBC Three will be broadcasting two hours of highlights from each day.
You'll also be able to get full coverage of Radio 1's Big Weekend online. There will be live streaming of the action in broadband video from 19:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
Finally, big screens in selected cities around the U.K. will be showing live footage from the event. Click here for more info.
There doesn't appear to be any information yet on which bands will feature on the various programmes. However, rest assured that if any bootlegs surface of Bloc Party's performance they'll be put on BLOG PARTY quicker than you can say '"Och ay the noo"!

Kele interview with Billboard
Speaking to Billboard, Kele has revealed that the new album will tackle some serious issues. One of the new songs, 'Hunting For Witches', was written as a reaction to the media coverage of last year's London bombings and 'Waiting For The 7.18' is Kele's observation of the effects of the working life on his post-college friends.
