Bloc Party have posted this message over on their official website...
"Bloc Party have unfortunately been forced to cancel this Friday’s Newport show as guitarist Russell Lissack has to undergo a medical procedure which, whilst not being serious, cannot be delayed until the end of the tour. Unfortunately the band are unable to reschedule the date. Refunds are available from point of purchase. Bloc Party send their sincere apologies to fans and ticket holders and hope to be able to be back in Newport soon."
Bloc Party have confirmed a brand spanking new single, 'One More Chance', to be released on August 10th through Wichita Recordings. The track was recorded in April with Jacknife Lee and mixed with Philippe Zdar.
You can sample the first sweet strains of this new material on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show this Thursday. Let's hope they can bounce back after the not-so-glowing critical (and commercial) reception that greeted 'Intimacy Remixed'...
Bloc Party have a habit of surprising us with their stop-gap singles ('Two More Years' and 'Flux' were both steps in a different direction), so maybe it's a cover of this funky number. All will be revealed in two sleeps...
Bloc Party will be headlining the Other Stage at this year's Glastonbury Festival, and to warm up for their appearance they'll also be playing at the Garage in London on Thursday 25th June! The venue doesn't officially open until Friday 26th, so they're playing the pre-opening party for Trekstock in association with The Teenage Cancer Trust.
Trekstock raises money for 13-24 year olds by giving back to charity through music and fashion. They are continuing to support Teenage Cancer Trust this year with gigs and exclusives, and Bloc Party have asked Trekstock to host their epic Glastonbury warm-up show. For more info visit www.trekstock.com.
Tickets are being sold for £30 each from Ticket Web (though none are available at present). All proceeds go to Trekstock / Teenage Cancer Trust.
"We want to apologise to our fans in Japan. We have been touring too much and it’s taken a toll on us physically. We have already had to cancel shows in America. We didn’t want to cancel shows in Japan. Neither do we want to give less than 100% during our performances in Japan. So we have decided it would be better to postpone the dates and give ourselves time to recuperate. We are sorry to have to do this and hope you are not too disappointed. We look forward to seeing you in November. Thanks for your support. Love Bloc Party."
Posted on BlocParty.com in reference to the cancelled show earlier this week...
"Just a short announcement for everyone who was planning on going to see us in Minneapolis. We are going to make up the date on May 4th 2009, at the First Ave."
For the third year in a row, Bloc Party will be gracing the Main Stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals this summer! They'll be performing before the mighty Radiohead...click here for the Reading line-up.
Meanwhile, head over to the official site to download the individual stems for 'Ares', 'Signs' and 'Ion Square'. Remix the tracks to your hearts content, or use them to make your own low-budget Bloc-karaoke tracks!
We're really very sorry that we've had to cancel our shows in Minneapolis, MN and St. Louis, MO - Kele contracted viral pharyngitis last week (which is why we had to cancel Ultra Festival). After playing in Chicago last Saturday, he has been ordered to rest to avoid any permanent damage. We hope to return as soon as we can.
Again we're sorry to all of you that have got tickets for these shows, refunds for both shows are available at the point of purchase.
Apologies for the lack of updates recently...all is quiet at the moment. Rumours suggest that the next single will be 'Signs', but there's been no announcement yet. With Bloc Party's recent unorthodox release plan, it wouldn't be too surprising if they announced that the next single will be released in hologram format, available only in the Siberian branch of HMV.
The guys begin the next leg of their 'Intimacy' world tour in Canada on Friday, so check back for the usual setlists/YouTube videos as they come rolling in. Also, don't forget to email in your fan reviews/photos/drunken ramblings to get them featured on this here blog!
In the meantime, here's a lovely Bloc-related collage I stumbled across on Flickr earlier...

All credit to the people behind Bloc Party's current release plan...they certainly know how to keep things fresh. Tomorrow night between 7pm and 9pm GMT, Zane Lowe will premiere a brand new Bloc Party single on his BBC Radio 1 show...one of the final songs recorded during the 'Intimacy' sessions and as yet unheard! The track will be on the CD release of the album in October and will also be available as an immediate free download for anyone who's already bought or pre-ordered the album.
So tune into Zane Lowe tomorrow night, or listen online here.
In other news, Bloc Party will be playing the Glasgow Barfly on October 19th as part of the MTV2 Gonzo Tour 2008. Details here.
